What is "UDF" exactly?
"UDF" is an abbreviation. 👉 UDF = Uniform Density Filter. It is a commonly used filter element in multi-stage filters. UDF Carbon Filter Cartridge usually uses high-quality coconut shell activated carbon particles, which are uniformly compressed and molded to make the filter element density distribution consistent, thereby ensuring more uniform filtration, higher adsorption efficiency, and longer life when water flows through. It is usually installed in the second or third stage of the water purifier, after the PP cotton filter cartridge, to further purify the water quality.
Why do we need a UDF Carbon Filter Cartridge?
3 Benefits
✅99% Chlorine & Order Removal
Coconut shell activated carbon (high adsorption). Eliminates "swimming pool" taste and reduces harmful byproducts.
✅ 4-6 Month Long Lifespan
120g high-density carbon filling, which better extends service life. Fewer replacements vs. cheap filters (save time/money).
✅ Protects Your RO Membrane
Multi-layer adsorption structure. Traps organic contaminants to prevent RO membrane clogging (extends RO life by 30%).
Where is UDF used in multi-stage filtering?
In the common three-stage pre-filtration, the UDF carbon filter cartridge is generally used for the second stage of filtration. The first stage is PP sediment filter element, and the third stage is the CTO filter element.

Why Choose Ink-Blue Water Treatment UDF Filter?
- Premium Carbon Source: Coconut shell carbon (vs. coal-based) has 50% more pores for better adsorption.
- Leak-Proof Design: Polypropylene end caps + NBR/EPDM gaskets (optional) ensure no water bypass.
- Tested Performance: Passed NSF 42 standard for chlorine reduction and material safety.
Applications
- Home RO Systems: The 2nd-stage filter (after the sediment filter) protects the RO membrane.
- Under-Sink Filters: Improves taste for drinking water, tea, and baby formula.
- Coffee Machines: Prevents chlorine from ruining coffee aroma and flavor.
- Ice Makers: Ensures ice cubes are odor-free and crystal clear.

FAQ: UDF Carbon Filter
How is UDF different from CTO carbon filters?
A: UDF (Granular Activated Carbon) is better for odor/chlorine removal and has a higher flow rate. CTO (Compressed Carbon Block) is finer for micro-particle removal (e.g., pesticides). Use UDF as the 2nd stage, CTO as the 3rd stage in RO systems.
Here is an article to help better understand the differences between UDF and CTO cartridge filters: UDF & CTO: How to choose?
When should I replace the UDF filter?
A: Every 4-6 months under normal use (municipal water). Replace earlier if:
- Water starts to smell/taste like chlorine again
- Flow rate decreases (clogged with contaminants)
Is the carbon food-safe?
A: 100% yes. Made of food-grade PP material + NSF-certified coconut shell carbon, no BPA or chemicals that leach into water.
